30 underprivileged Students sponsored by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant get employment through Skill Development training at CIPET

 All the 30 underprivileged students sponsored by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) under its CSR initiative to pursue 6 month’s certificate course in ‘Machine Operator – Plastic Processing (MO-PP)’ at Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Bhubaneswar have got campus placement offers upon successfully completing the skill development course. It is noteworthy that RSP had launched the CSR initiative to provide skill training to the poor and underprivileged students from periphery areas of RSP under its Livelihood Generation Scheme of CSR planning for enhancing their employability.

10 students were sent to CIPET during 2021-22 as a pilot project at an expenditure of Rs. 10.43 Lakh to pursue the above course and all of them got job offers through campus placement. Notably CIPET offers well equipped class rooms, state of art laboratories & workshops and hostels for the students.

Based upon the success of the 1st batch, 60 more underprivileged students of the peripheral areas were sponsored to pursue the course at CIPET in 2022-23. The initial batch of 30 students joined the course in June, 2022 while another batch comprising 30 more students joined the course in December, 2022. RSP is incurring an expenditure of Rs. 60.60 Lakh for the skill development of these students at CIPET. The RSP-CSR sponsorship for this course covers total expenditure of students for admission and course fees, books, hostel and food charges etc.

            An interaction session was recently organised by the CSR Department for the freshly placed batch of 30 students at Institute for Peripheral Department, Sector- 20. Mr. B Sunil Kartha, CGM (Power) presided over the session and interacted with the students. Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR), Mr. T B Toppo, AGM (CSR) and other officers and staff of CSR department were present on the occasion. Mr. Kartha commended the efforts of CSR Department of RSP in providing opportunities to the lesser privileged children of the society and promotes the Skill India Mission. He also urged the candidates to work sincerely and give back to the society in future. Ms. Mittra encouraged the students and provided tips for healthy working and wellbeing in the outside world market.

At the outset Mr. T B Toppo welcomed the gathering. Ms. Munmun Mittra presented a brief on CSR Activities and the course module. Mr. G. R. Nayak, Senior Technician (CSR) proposed a formal vote of thanks while Mr. Benedict Ekka, Senior  Field Assistant (CSR) coordinated the programme.
