Rourkela Steel Plant celebrates 76th Republic Day of India amidst patriotic fervour

Rourkela Steel Plant -RSP observed the 76th Republic Day of India amidst patriotic fervour. More than 2000 students and employees of RSP took part in the celebrations organised at Ispat Stadium that was witnessed by thousands of Rourkelites. 

Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge, RSP graced the occasion as the Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march past to the tune of Gyan Jyoti Public School Band by 57 contingents. Scouts, Guides, Combat and Civilian troupes from various educational institutions of the City, troupes from CISF including RSP’s Fire Services, Nurses Training Institute and SAIL Hockey Academy added colour to the splendid march past. The team of students of Delhi Public School presented the national anthem. Mr. Ratan Kumar, DIG, CISF was present on the dais.                      

The DIC extended his heartiest greetings and good wishes to each and every Rourkelite on the occasion. Remembering the unmatched sacrifice and dedication of Odisha’s great sons and daughters—from the youngest freedom fighter and martyr, 12-year-old Baji Rout, to the iconic figures of the land—the DIC paid heartfelt tributes to all the legendary personalities. He highlighted their sacrifices as the foundation for India’s journey to becoming the 5th largest economy in the world.

The DIC congratulated each and every employee of RSP and all other stakeholders for the outstanding achievements in calendar year 2024 which saw strings of records, new benchmarks and newer products enriching the product basket.

“Let us envision our future—where we stand today and where we aim to be tomorrow,” said Mr. Verma in his concluding remarks. He emphasized the need to act now to achieve the ambitious goal of exceeding 9 million tons of annual production. This expansion will double the plant’s capacity and bring progress and prosperity to the region. Mr. Verma urged everyone to work collectively to turn this vision into reality.

The DIC also presented Ati utkrishtha and Utkrishtha awards to CISF Personnel, Jawahar Awards, RSP Gaurab Awards, and the best performing contingents award on this occasion. 

A similar function was held at Sector-22 Mini Stadium, in which Mr. Verma unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took the salute at the colourful march past presented by 42 contingents. He also presented awards to the best contingents of the Republic Day parade. The DIC also declared a special award of Rs. 10,000/- to Guru Gomkey Santhali Vidyalaya for the beautiful March past and also a special award for Shri Gandhi Bal Uchha Vidyalay. The Band platoon of Ispat English Medium School, Sector- 22 was also rewarded for their beautiful rhythmic tune in the event. Mr. Ashok Jalwania, Senior Commandant, CISF was present on the dias on the occasion.

Present on both the occasions were Mrs. Namrata Verma, President (Deepika Mahila Sanghati), Mr. A K Behuria, ED (F&A), Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury ED (Projects), Dr. J K Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS), Mrs. Navanita Pal Chowdhury, Vice President of Deepika Mahila Sanghati and other senior officers of RSP and  a large number of spectators. The programmes were organised by the Social Welfare wing of RSP in association with other departments of RSP. 

At the Republic Day function held at Ispat High School Ground, Tensa, Mr. Himanshu Mishra, CGM (BIM, KIM & Taldih) hoisted the flag and took the salute of the march past. Dr Sanjay Kumar, Assistant CMO and Mr. P C Barua, GM (Mining) hoisted the national Flag at Republic Day Celebrations held at Barsua and Kalta respectively. Fruit distribution to patients also carried out at BIM Hospital and KIM Hospital to mark the occasion. Mr. Joydev Chattopadhyay, CGM (BOM) hoisted the National Flag in the Republic Day function organized at Bolani Football Ground. Mr. Kevin Ghosh, GM (HR) and other Senior Officers were also present on the occasion.

A similar function was organized by Deepika Mahila Sanghati at Deepika Jagriti Sansthan, Sector-2 to celebrate Republic Day. Mrs. Namrata Verma hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Mrs. Navanita PalChowdhury and all the office bearers of the Sanghati.
