DIC of RSP congratulates Steel Melting Shop-2 collective for setting new record

Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge along with other senior officers of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) visited the Steel Melting Shop-2 of the Plant on 2nd May 2023 for congratulating the collective on setting a fresh record. It is worth mentioning here that, the Continuous Casting Machine-2 (CCM-2) of SMS-2 registered an all time best castings of 222 heats which is the  longest ever sequence of heats, not only in RSP but also in SAIL. 

                Mr. Bhowmick, was accompanied by Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. P K Satapathy, ED (P&A),  Mr. P K Sahoo, ED (Projects), Mr. Somnath Tripathy, ED (MM) and Mr. P K Rath, CGM In-Charge (Mines). Heads of Departments and other Senior Officers of the plant as well as a large number of employees of SMS-II Department were present on the occasion.  Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhowmick congratulated the collective and appreciated the team work and the coordination amongst different departments. Exhorting the employees to strive further and make all out efforts to meet the set targets he emphasized on three parameters i.e. Consistency, Quality and Cost which will lead the plant to greater heights. The DIC presented bouquets and sweets to SMS-II team in appreciation of the good job.

             In his address Mr. Suryawanshi congratulated the team SMS-II and all the associated departments for making a fresh record . He also urged the department to achieve the next target of 300 heats and exhorted all to reaffirm their resolve to produce safe and green steel. It is noteworthy that CCM-2 started the sequence on 17th April, 2023 at 15.42 Hrs and completed on 28th April, 2023 at 14.42 Hrs with a record total casting time of 263 Hours. In the process, the unit produced 35275 Tonnes of Crude Steel (2071 Slabs) with 25 Tundish flying and total cast length of 16407 Metres.

            The Secondary Steel Units and Basic Oxygen furnace of SMS-2 played an instrumental role in the success by feeding heats with required quality, composition and temperature and at the right time. It was challenging as casting for this sort of long sequence never been achieved. However, the concerted efforts of the entire production chain and the supporting agencies viz. Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Research & Control Lab (RCL) and Production Planning & Control (PPC) helped the department achieve the target. The employees under the leadership of Mr. T P Sivasankar, CGM (SMS-II) conveyed their commitment to fulfill the expectations of the management from Steel Melting Shop-II.
