“Embrace innovative thinking and unconventional solutions for thriving in cutthroat steel market,” exhorted Mr. Atanu Bhowmick to the young managers of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in the inaugural session of the HR initiative ‘Prakarsh’ held at ‘Manthan’ conference hall on 19th May, 2023. The session marked the launch of the specially designed HR series, where DIC will directly engage with young managers from various departments of the plant to foster idea generation, discuss viable solutions, and motivate the emerging leaders to excel in their workplace. Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works) and Mr. P K Satapathy, ED (P&A) were also present on the occasion. The event saw the participation of 30 young executives from the Iron & Steel Zone of RSP.
Elaborating the dire need to elevate the performance levels of the Plant, Mr. Bhowmick said, “We have to effectively manage costs and enhance techno-economic aspects to ensure sustainability and profitability in the face of rapidly changing market dynamics.” He urged the collective to share their thoughts and develop long-lasting solutions to overcome stumbling blocks that are hindering the progress of the plant. Additionally, Mr. Bhowmick stressed the importance of preparedness for the upcoming monsoon challenges. The DIC also stressed on safety and urged everyone to bring a cultural change in the critical parameter by focussing on behavioural aspect of safety. “You have inherited a proud legacy of RSP and I am sure the superior younger generation will ably guide the Steel Plant along the path of glory by making it more vibrant in every respect,” he concluded.

Mr. Suryawanshi also urged the young executives to think out of box and adopt the latest technologies to drive transformative changes in their respective departments. Emphasising upon the importance of the unique HR initiative, Mr. P K Satapathy advised the young executives to utilise their powerful minds and use their limitless potential to generate ideas and solutions that will help the plant prosper.
During the interactive session that ensued, the young executives engaged in fruitful discussions concerning the challenges and issues within their respective departments. They actively contributed their insights and put forth suggestions to address these issues. The participants delved into key areas such as process optimization, cost management, technological advancements and safety measures. They shared their experiences and innovative ideas, aiming to find practical and efficient solutions. The discussions also revolved around enhancing productivity, streamlining workflows, and improving communication channels among different departments. Earlier, Ms. Rajashri Banerjee, CGM (HRD) in her welcome address briefly elaborated about the new HR intervention. Mr. K K Jaiswal, AGM (HRD) coordinated the programme and proposed a formal vote of thanks.
