World Steel Safety Day observed at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant

Awareness programmes and brain storming sessions were oragnised at SAIL, Rourkela Steel plant (RSP) to mark ‘World Steel Safety Day’ on 28th April 2023. A Seminar on ‘Confined Space Safety’, was chaired by Mr. Debabrata Dutta, CGM In-charge (Services). Present on the occasion were Ms. Asha Sunil Kartha, GM In-charge (Safety) and other Senior Officers of the Plant. The Departmental Safety Officers, Area Safety Officers and Line Managers from different Departments attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Dutta, emphasized on the importance of conducting such sessions to increase the safety awareness specific to various confined space jobs taken by the departments. Mrs Asha S.Kartha, elaborated on the precautions to be taken while working in confined spaces so as to achieve the goal of Zero Accident.

The technical session was conducted by Mr. Soutrik Mazumdar, Manager (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality), East Zone, from Messrss Linde India Ltd. The session covered the various aspects of a confined space, the finer points like roles & responsibilities of all concerned in executing a job inside a confined space. Mr. Abakasha Behera, GM (Safety Engineering) welcomed the gathering and coordinated the programme. To commemorate the occasion several other programmes such as a day-long training on “Hot metal handling safety” for non executive employees of Blast Furnace, Steel Melting Shop- I & II, Traffic and Raw Material, Foundries, a Workshop on “Electrical Safety” and a programme on “Stress Management ” were also held.
