First consignment of HR Plates from the Hot Strip Mill-2 of RSP flagged off

The first consignment of Hot Rolled Plates from the newly installed world class Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) of Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was flagged off on 22nd April, 2023. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP flagged off the consignment in the presence of Mr. S. R. Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. P.K. Satapathy , ED (P&A), Mr. P.K. Sahoo, ED (Projects), Mr. S. Tripathy, ED(MM), Mr. P.K. Rath, CGM In Charge Mines, Mr. A.K.Behuria, CGM In Charge (F&A),Mr. D. Dutta, CGM In Charge Services and many other CGMs, HODs and employees of HSM-2. In all 19 HR Plates Packets with total weight of about 126.5 Tons were loaded on 2 Railway Wagons for despatch to Ballabgarh Stockyard. Currently, the SSL is in the commissioning  and  ramp-up stage. Mr. Bhowmick appreciated the whole team of Hot Strip Mill-2 and encouraged the team to stabilize the line quickly. ED(Works) exhorted the employees to quickly ramp up the production in SSL. Mr. R.K. Muduli, CGM, HSM-2 gave a brief description of the journey so far and future plans for the production line. Mr. D.K. Yadav, GM, HSM-2 facilitated the flagging-off ceremony and Mr. A. Agarwal, Mgr, HSM-2 co-ordinated the programme.

It is worth mentioning that the new Sheet Shearing Line of Hot Strip Mill-2 with 0.4 Million Tonne per annum (MTPA) capacity is a state-of-the-art mill with few parallels in India and will be producing world-class hot rolled (HR) Plates. The state of art mill set up at RSP will enrich the product basket and will enhance the Company’s market share. The SSL is capable of cutting HR Coils from 1000 mm to 2000 mm width, with thickness range of 5 mm to 20 mm and the cut length is from 4m to 13 m, with a maximum bundle/packet weight of 10 Tons.  Equipped with the latest and sophisticated technology, the Mill will meet the stringent requirements of the customers in terms of quality, finish, dimensions and other parameters.
